UNIT52

UNIT52 is INTAR Theatre’s non-equity actor training program. It was founded by former artistic director, Lou Moreno, as a response to the shortage of Latine actors in the Actors Equity Association (AEA). This program is dedicated to supporting the creative growth and career development of non-union Latine actors.
UNIT52 consists of a 12 week training program at absolutely NO COST to the artist, offering actors of all skill levels the opportunity to join the INTAR community while deepening their craft under the mentorship of INTAR legacy artists. Current teaching artist, Nancy Rodriguez, teaches a course that explores heightened language as well as taking focus on works written by Latine artists.
As a part of INTAR’s mission, UNIT52 always seeks to be a touchstone for artistic incubation as well as a hub for intergenerational connection. UNIT52 has served the community for the last 12 years, with 9 cohorts, several developmental productions, and over 100 alumni. The program is open to all, but especially seeks to uplift members of marginalized communities.
Auditions for the 10th cohort of UNIT52
will be held December 2025!

NewWorks LAB
INTAR offers a year-round NewWorks LAB that features play commissions and 29-hour AEA workshops, readings, and artistic experiments for scripts in progress.
We focus on providing artists with technical, dramaturgical, and career support as they explore their craft.
INTAR started JAMS in the summer of 2024, an internal festival of
2 day readings of plays.
These readings and experimental workshops often feature members of INTAR’s UNIT52 as well as other community members.
MAINSTAGE PRODUCTIONS
INTAR’s award winning Mainstage Productions consist of mostly new works written by established or emerging Latine artists. Most productions take place in our intimate 55-seat theater in the heart of Hell’s Kitchen.
We tell stories that elevate and celebrate Latinidad and the many intersections of our community. INTAR’s commitment to uplifting these stores have allowed our Mainstage shows to continue to be a major voice in the conversation of American Theatre.
In recent seasons INTAR has tackled conversations about colonization, bodily autonomy, challenges of immigration, and so much more. Now in our 60th season we are proud to continue the legacy of showcasing Latine art at its finest.
Ticket prices for these productions range from $15 to $35. We offer complimentary tickets to INTAR artists and community members as well as partnering with local community organizations to make latine theatre as accessible as possible.
